Diamonds are the only gem that is made by only one single mineral element, carbon. Typically a diamond is 99.5% carbon with the other .5% made up by trace elements. These trace elements can affect the shape and colour of the diamond. Diamonds are the hardest material known to man, scoring a 10 on the Mohs scale, resulting in amazing durability and sustainability. Buy one diamond and it will last forever. The only material that can scratch a diamond is another diamond. No two diamonds are the same, the 4 C’s are used to asses the quality of the diamond. Thanks to this guide customers can know exactly what they are purchasing, and the quality of diamonds are a universal language. These 4 all-important C’s are Colour, Clarity, Cut and Carat Weight.

Diamonds are among nature’s most rare and precious creations. Their beauty is second to none. Most are considered primeval, forming over billions of years. They are formed under extremely high temperatures approximately 160 kilometres beneath the surface of the earth. The combination of crystal structure, chemical composition and their formation process creates a diamond that is unique and incredibly precious. The most valued diamonds are colourless and pure.

Metal Urges is committed to dealing only with GIA certified diamonds. GIA is the Gemological Institute of America. GIA’s mission statement is to ‘uphold the absolute highest standards of integrity, academics, science and professionalism through education, research, laboratory services and instrument development.’ Through this they ensure 100% conflict free gems of the highest quality.
